Maniquesto: Special Session 127 at ESEE-Degrowth Pontevedra 2024

I feel very honoured to be invited to this panel discussion led by Sofia Greaves on Thursday 20th June, 9.00 AM at the 10th International Degrowth Conference and 15th Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics at University of Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain. With artists Penelope Cain, Dr. Laura Donkers and SciArt project leader Adriaan Eeckels, who works at the intersection between science, art and policymaking.

This session is an interactive arts-based session to provoke reflections and inspire conversations about the intersections between art and degrowth. We will create a “ManiQuesto”, inspired by the modernist Manifestos (Marx, Dada, Futurism, etc): the Maniquesto will not dictate what is, and is not, degrowth art.

I will be presenting on ecological curation, Penelope Cain (Australia/Berlin) on documenting lithium extraction and Adriaan Eeckels, leader of the Science-Art project conducted by the JRC, knowledge service for the European Commission, will be talking about the “Naturarchy” project which invited artists and scientists “to re-imagine the western relation of human and non-human, in an attempt to ensure juridical persona to Nature’s many wonders, be they stardust or DNA.”
