A pastiche of Nancy Holt's MoonSunStarEarthSkyWater, 1969 collage on paper (30cm x 45cm), this work continues Donkers' preoccupation with nature's taken for granted systems that are rarely seen yet play a crucial role in sustaining our environments and economies. 

 

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is one of Earth’s most significant climate systems. It is the ​“conveyor belt” of the ocean: a crucial ocean current system that regulates global temperatures, weather and marine ecosystems by circulating warm, salty water from the tropics to the North Atlantic, where it cools and sinks. However, Climate change is causing the AMOC to weaken, with some scientists warning of a potential collapse that could have severe impacts on climate, sea levels, and ecosystems worldwide. Such a change could reshape environments and economies in ways that would affect millions of people, highlighting the importance of understanding and protecting vulnerable regions like the Arctic where warming and melting ice are directly affecting the AMOC
